The cloister of Jerónimos Monastery (Portugal)
The cloister has an impressive sculptural wealth. Square 55 meters on each side, it has two floors. The lower floor, built by Diogo Boitaca is pierced with wide arches with tracery are supported on slender columns whose decoration is inspired by the late Gothic and Renaissance. The upper floor, built by João de Castilho, a less exuberant style. In a corridor of the cloister is since 1985 the tomb of Fernando Pessoa.
